What is TNR/TNVR?

In a perfect world, every cat would have a warm home to live in and a loving lap to call their own. The reality is there are more cats than homes to possibly adopt them all. This is where TNR/TNVR comes in.

TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) is the humane way to control the feral population. TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) adds an additional layer of protection against disease. Both of these processes provide a longer lifespan and a higher quality of life for these community cats.

TNR involves baiting a humane trap suitable for a cat and staying close by to watch. Once the cat enters the trap, the trap plate will trigger the door to close and the kitty is now ready for a major quality of life improvement. The trapper will place a towel or sheet over the trap to calm the cat, overnight the cat in the trap and then take them to the vet the next morning. The vet will scan the cat for a chip to ensure it’s not a lost pet, vaccinate, alter and give the kitty a quick look over. After surgery, the cat will be overnighted at the trapper’s home and then released if no complications arise.
